Arriving in Kenya.

Hello. I'm currently in a cyber hut in Athi-River, Kenya. I love it here, so much. There are so many things to write about, but I will try and keep it as simple as possible. YOU DON'T KNOW LIFE UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN TO AFRICA.

Everyone here is so nice and so funny. Even though I can't understand hardly anything they say. I don't know why the church told me to prepare to serve in the English language, everyone speaks swahili here. So I have made it a goal to learn the language by the end of October. So far it seems pretty easy.

My comp is Elder Barasa, he is from Uganda. He has a very thick accent. He's cool though. We are white washing this area. We have two baptisms on Saturday tho, so that is cool. I also got called as district leader, so I am super excited about that.

Life is so different here. The pictures and the videos that you see on TV and such are so accurate. I already love the way of life down here and I am sure I will love it even more when I can understand people. Haha. Every shower is cold and we only have good water through 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and we are proselyting during that time so it is dumb. I love the food as well. They call fries 'Chipas' and they eat mostly with their hands.

Like I was told, the little kids all call me 'Mzungu' which means white person. There are so many mtoto's running around all the time. It makes me wonder where their parents are. I have made a couple of mtoto friends if you look at the pictures. They're pretty cute.

Church on Sunday was a surreal experience for me. They have a building for church but the congregation out grew it so they have a tent in the back for sacrament. There was a total of 90 people there, when we began to sing the hymns the spirit hit me way hard. I don't know why but i was holding back tears. The Athi-River ward is amazing.

Probably the only bad thing about Africa is that it has a very odd stench, always. There is trash everywhere and people burn their trash as well, so I think that is the problem.

I think TOMS shoes was lying because I haven't seen one pair of TOMS yet. Well, it won't let me upload any pictures so I will try in a different hut next week.

With Love,

Elder Bradford
